The 2nd World NCD Congress is co-organized by the University of Michigan and the World NCD Federation. The Congress was initially planned for August 2020. Due to COVID-19, the 2nd World NCD Congress was split into three activities:
a special issue with invited articles from prominent thought leaders and researchers, published with FASEB BioAdvances open access journal
Unite basic, clinical, data and implementation science approaches to promote health and prevent chronic disease and disability
Translate research from these domains into policies and practices
Introduce a novel, intersecting matrix of risk factors and disease-oriented lenses for examining NCDs, highlighting the multiple risk factors that contribute to major NCDs.
The conference aims to draw multi-sectoral participation from health sciences faculty and trainees, epidemiologists, community health workers, clinicians, urban planners, policy makers, patient educators, data scientists, nutritionists, engineers, behavioral scientists, public health practitioners, NGO employees, and members of private industry.
The theme for the World NCD Congress 2020 was "Knowledge to Action: Preventing Noncommunicable Diseases at All Levels." This will be the theme with the associated publications from the 2020 invited articles and abstracts to be published with FASEB BioAdvances and the International Journal of Noncommunicable Diseases, respectively.
The theme for the 2021 virtual conference will be "Global Prevention of NCDs in the COVID-19 Era: Where Do We Go From Here?"
Partnerships and Inclusivity
The planning team is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion for the event. The team aims to have gender parity, geographic diversity, racial and ethnic diversity, and diversity of scientific disciplines across advisors, committee members, speakers, other presenters, reviewers, and audience. Cognizant of the common disparities and imbalances with the field broadly, these diversity, equity, and inclusion dimensions are considered and a mix of referrals and evidence-based searches for scientific and speaking expertise informed selection and invitation for each of those categories.
