We hope that you are keeping safe and healthy as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve. No matter where we live, the global and local situation is affecting each one of us personally and professionally.
We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, risk assessment and guidelines from the World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. The situation remains very much in flux. While our enthusiasm for the World NCD Congress 2020 remains high, the current global situation does not support an in-person international gathering this size so soon.
In light of these events, the organizing committee of #WNCD2020 has made the difficult decision not to meet in-person on August 1-6, 2020 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. International travel plans for August, especially ones requiring visa processing time, are too unpredictable at the moment. Therefore, we are currently assessing alternative virtual formats and/or alternative dates.
Our commitment to preventing noncommunicable diseases is unwavering. We have been inspired by the nearly 300 abstracts that we received from dozens of countries around the world. We have been captivated by our plenary speakers. Especially considering that those with certain NCDs are among the most vulnerable in circumstances such as we find ourselves in at present, we are convinced of the need for this important scientific dialogue. Please note that the 2nd World NCD Congress is not cancelled. We are in the process of reviewing the submitted scientific abstracts and will soon be in touch with the authors as to reviewers’ decisions about selected abstracts as well as next steps. In this context, we are working to find the best platform to share your work with a wide audience, whether in-person in 2021, virtually, and/or via peer-reviewed publication.
Once we have finalized alternative formats and/or dates for the 2nd World NCD Congress, we will post these updates and announcements on the website, and also via social media and email. Please do stay tuned. We thank you for your understanding and patience.
